Do Something Spring 2017

A zine about cities and bikes and otras cosas

By K.E.B. Gomez

This is the Spring 2017 issue of Do Something! A zine that tries to get at experiencing and moving in cities, often using bikes as a starting point, recurring themes include chicanismo, vegan food, and transit infrastructure. This issue features a story and a map about a flat tire and also has some interviews.

Spring 2017 issue of Do Something, featuring:
-A map and story of a bad day working as a courier
-Interviews with Alejandra, photographer from Monterey, MX, and Artnoose, zinester legend

Do Something's general focus is on moving in and experiencing cities and urban spaces. Each issue includes a story and accompanying map, and interviews with artists from the U.S. and Mexico. Past zine projects include the smash hits Zinester’s Guide to San Diego and If You Give a Punk a Coffee (an update of a classic children’s book, now in a bilingual edition). Gomez is a (former) bike courier and (current) bike educator with a graduate degree in urban affairs. They are interested in concepts of urbanism and cities, how we think about time and space (more often than not through speed and distance), and precocity. By writing about bikes and talking to artists Gomez is looking for lived experience that engages these ideas.
