Jess Hogan + Yoga

Jess Hogan is a 200 hour certified yoga instructor in Kansas City Missouri. She reluctantly tried yoga in the fall of 2014 as a way to address her growing anxiety and depression. In spite of her apprehension she quickly remembered how at home she felt when her body was active- something she had abandoned after high school 7 years earlier. Physical activity linked with the self work that yoga encourages helped to rebuild comfort in her own skin and boosted her overall self esteem.

During the training Jess learned that she is especially interested in encouraging yoga for everyone regardless of age, gender, ability, or economic status.  In June of 2019 Jess earned a certification to teach Accessible Yoga when she participated in the Accessible Yoga Teacher Training and Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
Expect a non judgmental approach that focuses on cultivating body awareness with emphasis on harnessing one's breath to achieve a connection to the present moment.
In addition to zines and yoga Jess is also a vegan baker/cook and barista and a caregiver to critters and kiddos. She is inspired by community building, creative forms of expression, native wildlife, everyday magick, and is deeply in love with her partner of 10 years and their 2 beautiful cats.

Yoga + Zines: Practice not Perfection Workshop

Sunday July 7th 2-4pm $20 investment

What's a zine (pronounced "zeen")? Zines are independently made print publications. They are often xeroxed, folded, and stapled booklets that are made, assembled, and distributed by their creators.  Zines are a way to share your art, writing, poetry, thoughts, passions, etc. with the world without the mainstream barriers of editors, publishers, high printing costs, etc. So, what do yoga and zines have in common? Both are empowering, accessible, meditative, forms of self study, a practice in connecting to one's creativity and intuition (body+mind+spirit), and fun!

In this workshop we will explore the ways in which yoga and zines overlap philosophically and in practice/action. You will learn the benefits of both and how to incorporate the two! New to zines and/or yoga? No problem! Jess will guide you through a series of beginner friendly exercises that will create space for shedding limiting beliefs around perfectionism. Expect a mixture of  gentle asana (yoga postures), pranayama (breathwork), drawing meditation, journaling, and zine making with a general theme of surrendering to the process and cultivating self trust. Everyone will make, copy, and assemble their own zine and the session will close with a mini "zine fest" where we will share what we created and trade with one another! Everyone will also leave with a zine goody bag from Neither/nor Zine Distro!
